Condition

Colour: The colours in the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate, although illustration fails to fully convey the rich thick impasto and relief collaged elements apparent in the original. Condition: This work is in very good condition. Close inspection reveals a few hairline cracks in places to the thickest areas of impasto paint. There a few points where the pexiglass touches the impasto peaks. No restoration is apparent when examined under ultra-violet light.

Catalogue Note

“I return to Valázquez because it pleases me to look for new variations, to repeat variations, always more difficult to find, to introduce new ideas and to make them face off against one another. In the end all of this variety is what configures… Velázquez is one of those songs that can be sung again. In the Prado Museum, every time I go in, I see new possibilities for my work.”
