Condition
The picture is made up of two pieces of panel, a screw at the top and a velcro strip on the reverse hold the picture in place. There is some minor mould to the adhesive in the cross bar joins and down the right most edge which is only visible from an angle and should be treatable with distilled water. The paint surface is in good overall condition with no damage or loss of paint except for an old restored loss to the lower edge of the left arm. There is also a faint horizontal line along the bottom of the cross, which appears to be old discoloured restoration. Examination under ultraviolet reveals strengthening to the dark of the background and scattered cosmetic retouchings to the fleshtones. There is also an old discoloured varnish. Overall the painting is in good condition. Affixed to a green velvet covered backboard and offered in a fine Italian gilt wood frame.
