- oil on canvas, in a George II carved gilt wood frame
Condition
The picture is slightly cooler in tone and fresher in colour thanthe catalogue illustration would suggest. The canvas has been lined and the paint surface appears to be in good overall condition. There is no apparent damage or loss of paint except for a minor horizontal surface scratch measuring 1 in. in her right knee. However there are some old minor scattered areas of retouching visible under a raking light. There is also surface dirt and a discoloured varnsih overall. Examination under ultraviolet light confirms the presence of the mottled varnish, however no other restoration is visible other than that mentioned already. The picture is in good overall condition. Offered in a carnved giltwood frame with old minor losses.
