Catalogue Note
The arms are those of Knowlys of Heysham Hall, Lancashire, and Stockwell, Surrey, impaling another, ancestors of Thomas Knowlys Parr (1863-1938), who lived and died at Wymering Manor, near Cosham, Hampshire.
The freehand inscriptions on the undersides of these salvers were clearly written by Thomas Knowlys Parr himself; compare his signature with that on the 1911 Census for 49 Lansdown Place, Hove, Sussex, where he was head of the household. He was born at Clifton, Gloucestershire, in 1863, the son of Thomas Parr (1834-1905), a solicitor, and his wife Louisa Debonnaire, née Knowlys (1840-1863).
