Provenance

Anonymous sale, Sotheby's, 15 November 1962, lot 152
Christie's, London, 22 May 1991, lot 106

Condition

nice heavy salver with good marks, above average engraving but it is a little worn. The arms were read by Christie's as possibly Cayley, which appears not to be the case. Either way, the arms and both crests are probably one generation later, ie: 2nd half of the 18th Century. The arms appear to be or, a lion rampant within ten crosses crosslet fitchee (Adams), quartering paly of six, or and gules, on a bend (? sable) three mullets (Elton), small repair in border above one of the feet, small hairline surface crack in border above two of the other feet, otherwise overall good condition
