Description

  • Gilt, paint
  • each approximately 41cm. high, 57.5cm. wide, 43.5cm. deep; 1ft. 4¼in., 1ft 10½in., 1ft. 5¼in.
the drop-in seats above shell and foliate-carved and shaped seat-rails on moulded cabriole legs with shell and strap-work-carved knees and scrolled feet, together with four later polished granite-inset tops, with variations to the redecorated surface of each

Condition

This set of six stools frames are in generally fair condition, there is scuffing, scratches, chips, and some separation commensurate with age and use, along with worm throughout and some losses to carved detail from activity. A slight variation in the colour of the paintwork between two of the stools and the remainder suggests repainting at some point, as does the varied application of paint to the undercarriage of the set as a whole. In places the paintwork is worn revealing a white gesso undercoat. Some of scrolled feet of the stools display a greater degree of wear than the main body of the set, though again this is commensurate with age and use.
