Description

  • Walnut, leather
  • 71cm. high, 89cm. wide, 42.5cm. deep; 2ft. 4in., 2ft. 11in., 1ft. 4½in.
the shaped top opening to reveal a later leather lined playing surface with gaming counter wells and dished candlestick recesses, the inverted frieze centred by a shell, on shell carved cabriole legs ending in paw feet, the edge of the playing surface inscribed in ink 'John Rya...[?] March 12 1826'

Condition

The folding shaped top with scratches, scuffs and burn marks. The interior with a later leather lining which is tired and lifting in places, the walnut in this area with scratches, cracked and water marks commensurate with use and age. The frieze centred by a shell which may have be re-attached as there are screws and it is slightly squint. The veneers on the frieze with vertical cracks and old repairs. Some scratching and scuffing to feet.
