Catalogue Note

The niellé style, that is to say, delicate blue, or sometimes black, arasbeques on ochre ground, was developed in order to imitate the very fine niello decoration on silver by the faience workshops in Rouen for a short period only, 1725-1735. For a large plateau with putti on a broad niellé rim, dated 1726, see Chompret, Répertoire de la Faience francaise, plate 96.
