Description

  • kingwood and tulipwood, giltbronze, marble
  • 91.5cm. high, 112.5cm. wide, 43cm. deep; 3ft., 3ft. 8¼in., 1ft. 5in.
the shaped white marble top with a pierced gallery above a bow-front frieze containing a drawer, raised on parcel-gilt fluted tapering legs united by a conforming galleried shelf

Provenance

Acquired from William Redford, London, 16 November 1973.

Condition

The stamps are visible below the drawer undertier, one is very hard to read/indistinct. The piece is generally in good restored condition. The marble has old marks and scratches commensurate with age and use and there is a repaired break to the back corner – visible to the naked eye. The front of the gallery is slightly misshapen. The fluted legs appear to be re-gilded. It is possible that the mounts on tips of feet have been replaced. The gallery to the lower tier is loose and there are later strengthening brackets and fragmented timber to the underside.
