Condition

Colours not as yellow in hue overall in reality. Crisper and more defined appearance in reality. There are areas of restoration, repairs and some 19th century reweaving. Main field with some repairs to the brown outlines in places, small repairs, and some professional reweaving to some areas of yellow. For examples within the borders, see the outer narrow border across left of top edge, and left side, top of inner vertical border, for later rewoven strips. The terracotta areas to inner edges of left and top of the main field are later. Some of brown outlines are later, commensurate with age. Small repairs in border to yellow and to areas of the figures. The borders have been cut and joined (woven joins). The inset figures of Fides (Faith) in the top and bottom border and are misaligned. This does not detract from the overall appearance. Later outer selvedge on all four sides. Tapestry is lined with cotton and has old Velcro across the top for hanging purposes (may need replacing). Main field with balanced composition and colouring, and some charming details and evidence of expert weaving techniques. Very decorative narrative tapestry.
