- Giltwood, paint
each in the form of an open scallop shell, the arms in the form of dolphins and legs in the form of conch shells together with a single similar side chair, also attributed to Pauly & Cie and late 19th century (3)
Condition
Very decorative. These armchairs have signs of age and use. There are losses to paint and chips to carved decoration. They have ingrained dirt and old marks, typical of grotto furniture of this nature. One with losses to filler on the seat of one revealing screw hole apertures. Evidence of worm, notably to the feet. The single chair is slightly lower in height, there are similar losses and marks throughout. To the back there is a loss which reveals fabric lining core timber. There are also losses to filler on the seat which reveals screw hole apertures
