Longtemps considérée comme postérieure à celle de Michel Lévy, son antériorité a été rétablie par le Dr. Michaux, grâce à la correspondance de l’auteur qui écrit à Paul Meurice à propos de l’impression Claye qui se fait sur l’édition belge (lettre du 21 juillet 1859).
