Catalogue Note

Ce bronze dérive du marbre antique conservé au palais des Offices à Florence, statue mentionnée de manière certaine pour la première fois en 1704. Le succès de ce marbre entraina de nombreuses imitations, la plus célèbre étant celle réalisée par Antoine Coysevox (1640-1720), achevée en 1686, et conservée au Musée du Louvre (inv n° RF 3005), dont un bronze grandeur nature fut réalisé par la fonderie Keller (conservé à Versailles).
