carved in high relief across the top with a tiered stage populated with figures dressed in theatrical costume, the top of the arch carved with acanthus leaves, the sides with opposing putti blowing horns, the rocks behind the putti inscribed xie bingwu nian (written in the bingwu year) and Xincheng zao (made by Xincheng), all gilded in two shades of gold

There is a horizontal break to the upper section; approximately 6 1/2 in. (16.6 cm) from the top that goes all the way through, approximately three-quarters is restored. A wood mount has been added to the back for stabilization and hanging. There is expected wear to the gilding.
