Description

  • olive pit
skillfully carved with doors that open, the bow and stern carved with figures dining, the top open to reveal six diners round a table, the bottom inscribed with a verse from the 'Red Cliff', signed Gusheng, the stand carved from half an olive pit with water plants rising from scudding waves

Provenance

Acquired in Ohio, circa 1933, and thence by descent.

Condition

The base with some wear and two splits along the rim. The boat has a small chip to one end.
