Description

  • Zhang Daqian (Chang Dai-chien, 1899-1983)
  • ADMIRING THE PINE TREE
  • ink and colour on paper, hanging scroll, 1958
with three seals of the artist

Inscription:
The xuan paper of the Southern Dynasties was like a child’s skin. It was already hard to come by in the Northern Song. This piece of paper shows the mingling of water and ink well. Isn’t it a worthy rival? It is a pity that I could not do this in the baimiao (outlined) style because of my defective eyes. Seventh lunar month of the wuxu year, Yuan.
