Description

of translucent turquoise-green glass, with a flat lip and a flat foot, the two main sides with raised, faceted oval panels surrounded by further faceting; the coral stopper with a gilt-bronze collar engraved with a formalized floral design

Condition

There is a very minute chip on the outer lip. There are tiny nibbles on the edge of the facet beneath the neck on one main side which have been slighly polished. Otherwise the snuff bottle is in good condition.

Catalogue Note

This bottle is typical of the smaller-sized range for this form. The mouth is well within the range of early wide mouths on glass bottles. The colour, rarely found among the group, it is one that can be associated with the court in other examples, as well as reign-marked objects other than snuff bottles.
