The current lot is a remarkable example of cloisonné enamel by Antoine Tard, evoking the influence of both Chinese and Japanese culture. The bright colours remind one of Chinese porcelain, and the yellow to the interior of the bangle is a symbol of both wisdom and refinement. In the artist's hands, the chrysanthemum, the imperial Japanese flower, presages an unpredictable future. Much imported from the East, the flower was very popular at the end of the XIXth century, and particularly in Japan, where it is considered sacred, with the gift of extending life.

Condition
Unsigned, no marker's marks. Please note that the width of the hinged bangle is of approx. 2.3 mm and the inside circumference is 163 mm. Please note that due to printing constraints the colours of the enamel are brighter in actuality than in the catalogue illustration, enamel with some loss but not distracting and consistent with the age of the piece. Signs of normal wear to the metal, scratches consistent with use. Safety chain. In overall good condition.
