Catalogue Note

A rare American mercantile broadside, evidently unrecorded and possibly unique. In the present advertisement, New London merchants Rosewell and Saltonstall give their terms for purchasing Sumac and directions for its harvesting and delivery. At this period sumac was used as candle wax, for spice and beverage flavoring, as a dye and tanning agent, and for medicinal purposes.
