8vo (8 5/8 x 5 1/8 in.; 219 x 130 mm).  Publisher's quarter white cloth, spine lettered in black, black and grey patterned boards, top edges stained blue, black and grey patterned endpapers; minimal wear.  Original dust-jacket with illustration adapted from a Käthe Kollwitz drawing; some minor rubbing at spine ends and upper right corner of front cover, remains of small early cellotape repairs on verso of jacket not visible on recto.
