Catalogue Note

First edition of Faulkner's first novel, in the fragile pictorial dust-jacket.  The Michael Sadleir copy.

This novel, originally titled Mayday, was published by Boni and Liveright at the suggestion of Sherwood Anderson.  The book concerns the immediate post-World War I years in America.  Its fictional small town, Charleston, bears a resemblance to Jefferson, county seat of Yoknapatawpha County.

Rare in the original dust-jacket.
