Catalogue Note
Presentation from the author, 'a Vermont states righter" to legendary conservative Strom Thurmond. Frost has truly provided one of the more surprising inscriptions from among the examples usually seen, "To Jean and Strom Thurmond / with wonder and admiration | from a vermont states righter | Robert Frost / March 9 1951 | Columbia College." Democrat, Dixiecrat and Republican, the present was inscribed during Thurmond's last year as governor of South Carolina, prior to his astounding and lengthy Senate career.
