The Engraved Passion (B., M., Holl. 3-18)

The set of 16 engravings, mainly very fine, early impressions, printed with plate tone, most Meder a or b, The Man of Sorrows Standing by a Column (M. 3) on paper with a fragment of a High Crown watermark and The Lamentation (M. 14) with the triangle from a bull’s head watermark, the remainder without watermark, all with narrow margins, the tips of the margin corners clipped (outside the platemark), in good condition apart from some surface dirt, most noticeable on M. 3, and a little staining in the sheet edges, Christ Crowned with Thorns (M. 9) with a tiny repaired tear in the upper edge, extending about 3 mm. into the subject, Peter and John at the Gate of the Temple (M. 18) with an uninked hairline through St. Peter’s cloak, all mounted at the left edges. Modern black morocco blind-tooled, with Dürer's monogram in center of both covers, edges gilt. by Chambolle-Duru.
