Imperial 8vo (7 3/4 x 5 1/4 in.; 196 x 134 mm). collation: a - v8, x4, y-z8, 78, p8=[192] leaves (of 196, lacking x5-8), type G:103, 28 lines, guide letters and spaces left for initials; quire d misbound, last leaf tipped to final pastedown, two small passages with early underlining (a8 and d4), one early marginal note on leaf n6v. 19th-century pastiche HaguĂ©-style binding on the Jean Grolier model, calf in a panel design with two frames and a lozenge of inlaid light-brown calf and five interlocking circles of the same inlay in the center, gilt-ruled; rebacked with original spine laid down, worn.

Catalogue Note

A very rare edition  of Seneca's letters,  ISTC listing only 11 copies of which 3 are imperfect. This is the variant issue with the Claude Jaumar colophon; another issue is identical save for the colophon which instead mentions the bookseller Durand Gerlier (see Webb).

No copy in Germany, only two copies in the U.S.
