Catalogue Note

First edition of this rare adaptation of Madame Tencin's romance La siège de Calais (1739), which Casanova admitted he wrote only for money, simply changing the characters and scene, for Calais becomes Nona and the protagonists France and England become Venice and Hungary. Casanova signs the preface in type on page x.
