7 volumes, 8vo (9 7/8 x 6 1/8 in.; 253 x 155 mm). 500 handcolored lithographed plates after Audubon by W. E. Hitchcock, R. Trembly, and others, printed and colored by J. T. Bowen, with tissue guards, numerous wood-engraved text illustrations, half-titles and lists of subscribers in each volume. Some spotting, foxing and offsetting to tissue guards, offsetting and browning to a few text pages and plates; a few plates misbound, generally clean internally; volumes 1–3 in deep blue calf, spines splitting at upper joints, ends rubbed; volumes 4 through 7 in nearly matching contemporary blue morocco with gilt and blind stamped covers, ends rubbed, spines detached on volumes 6 and 7, upper cover and lower covers of volume 6 detaches but present, upper cover of volume 7 detached but present .
