Catalogue Note
Trumbull's $1,400 invoice was for "Fifty early & fine impressions of the Plate of the Declaration of Independence" at $20 each and "Ten fine proofs of the same" at $40 each. These prints of Trumbull's most famous historical painting were each accompanied by a key and description. Samuel Williams was an American expatriate banker.
