Catalogue Note

Fifth edition of Lucan’s epic poem on the battle of Pharsalus, the only book known to have been produced by the printer Guerinus. Two other titles are questionably attributed to him (Goff C43 and E92). He is mentioned here in the poem just above the colophon: Ergo cape & iuvenem Guerinum ad sydera tollas("Therefore seize and raise up the young Guerinus to the stars").

Rare on the market; the only copy offered at auction since 1975 was missing 4 leaves.
