Catalogue Note

East Jersey’s development was tied to New York, New England, and the former Dutch colony of New Netherlands. Though East and West Jersey were ultimately joined in 1702, the provincial capitals of Perth Amboy in East Jersey and Burlington in West Jersey survived until Trenton became the state capital in 1790. The East Jersey Proprietors Corporation was only dissolved in 1998.

The present document grants 160 acres of land to Ester Bruen, widow, in right of her deceased husband John Bruen, late of Newark.
