Catalogue Note
Thanking her for a letter she sent him, Magritte informs Miss Gablik about an important and successful exhibition of his paintings in the Casino of Knokke Le Zoute (July-August 1962). The artist complains about visitors and critics: "Mon exposition à Knokke a du "succes", mais si j'en juge par les critiques idiotes publiées dans les journaux, les visiteurs qui ne sont pas (sauf exceptions) plus malins que les "critiques d'art" doivent être ahuris en regardant mes tableaux."
He draws, on the second page of the letter, a sketch for "a new painting" but it seems he actually never painted it.
