Catalogue Note

Enrico Donati came to New York in 1934 and was soon influenced by Surrealism. When the war started in Europe, he was in contact with all the French artistic scene who exiled from Paris, especially Andre Breton and Marcel Duchamp. He stayed close to the French Surrealists after the War and participated in the International Surrealist Exhibition in 1947, designing with Duchamp the world famous cover of the catalogue: "Priere de toucher" (see following lot).
