Catalogue Note

Relation of a sharkfishing journey in Marquesas Key, in the form af a dialogue involving Hemingway as "Ernesto Hemingvia", Bill Smith, his boyhood friend from Michigan and "Valdito Manning." The manuscript is illuminated.

Mixing English, Spanish and French, the text, written as a theatrical scene, is a lively description of sharkfishing expedition. The dynamism is accentuated by the energic drawings. He describes the catch of the shark as a bullfight, the harpoons as the banderilla and the trophy will be "dos orejas and the tail."

Writen in 1928, Hemingway's first year in Key West, the text by an unknown hand and [probably] unpublished, contains several themes of Hemingway's literature as death, friendship, bullfights, or fishing.
