Rare seconde édition de [8], 510 pages ; [6] sur 8 (sans le faux titre du deuxième volume), 589 pages, pas de feuillet blanc en fin.
Le plus important texte économique du XVIIIème siècle, édition imprimée seulement à 500 exemplaires et la seule de format in-4 après la première édition publiée en 1776.
Adam Smith (1723-1790), écrivit entre 1766 et 1776 "The Wealth of Nations". En 1763, il accompagna en France le jeune duc de Buccleuch. Ils passèrent 18 mois à Toulouse, puis séjournèrent à Paris où Adam Smith rencontra Quesnay, Turgot, d'Alembert et bien d'autres. De retour en Angleterre, il rédigea son oeuvre majeure.
Fente à la charnière du tome premier en tête, déchirure page 13, tome premier en milieu du texte sans perte de papier, restauration angle inférieur page 23, petit trou en marge angle page 39, légère brunissure en marge. Volume II, petit trou de vers, quelques taches et rousseurs.
