Voyage dans le Levant en 1817 et 1818. Paris, de l'Imprimerie Royale, 1819 ; grand in-folio (670 x 503 mm) pour l'atlas et in-8 pour le texte, demi-basane blonde à coins pour l'atlas et demi-basane brune pour le texte, dos à nerfs ornés (Reliures du milieu du XIXème siècle).
Première édition, limitée à 325 exemplaires.
80 illustrations à pleine page dont 70 lithographies monochromes par Engelmann d'après les frères Vernet, Fragonard, Legros, Isabey, Deseynes et Castellan, 8 aquatintes par Debucourt d'après Forbin et 2 plans "Coupe d'une pyramide" et "Plan d'une des catacombes de Milo et Plan du Saint-Sepulcre".

En 1816 Forbin succède à Denon comme Directeur des Musées et en août 1817 il entame un voyage d'un an au Levant afin d'acquérir des antiquités, accompagné de l'artiste Pierre Prévost.
