Catalogue Note
According to Emilie Savage-Smith the author Muhammad Ibn Muhammad al-Qawsuni al-Misri was an Egyptian physician who likely became court physician to the Ottoman Sultans Suleyman the Magnificent (r.1520-66) and Selim II (r.1566-74). The Bodleian Library does not possess any of his works and al-Misri is only mentioned due to his name appearing as an owner on the title page of one of the library's manuscripts: Ibn Abi Usaybi’ah's Kitab ‘uyun al-anba’ fi tabaqat al-atiba' (see E. Savage-Smith, A New Catalogue of Arabic Manuscripts in the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford, Volume I: Medicine, Oxford, 2011, p. 499 and Plate XXXVI.
