Description

gouache heightened with gold on paper, laid down on a large album page ruled in blue and gold, wide outer margins decorated with polychrome and gold découpage flowers, leaves and stylised palmettes

Condition

In good overall condition, colours and gold bright, some light stains and creases, some abrasions to upper album page margins, small section of text cut from lower left hand corner of painting, as viewed.

This leaf originates from the now-dispersed album made for Nasir al-Din Shah (r.1848-96) in 1888 (commonly known as 'the Nasir al-Din Shah Album'), probably produced to mark the fortieth anniversary of his accession to the throne.
