of deep rounded form on a short hollow foot and with a slightly inverted rim, decorated in turquoise, blue and manganese with relief beige motifs and gilt highlights, the well with a central stylised foliate design and calligraphic band under the rim, the exterior with ensuite design and pierced geometric bosses in high relief

Condition

Broken and restored with associated restoration, including some infill, one of pierced bosses on external surface with small chip, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

A bowl with a stylistically comparable design and analogous gilt and relief decoration is in the ex-Parish-Watson Collection (see R.Meyer Riefstahl, The Parish-Watson Collection of Mohammadan Potteries, New York, 1922, fig. 53, p.161, no.29). Further parallels can be drawn with a pottery bowl featuring similar pierced geometric bosses in relief, also in the Parish-Watson Collection (see ibid., fig. 59, p.182, no.35).
