painted with oblong cartouches containing Qur'anic inscriptions in gilt within red and green borders reserved on a deep cobalt blue glaze overpainted with gilt crescent moons and stars with further Qur'anic inscriptions in gilt around the rims and to the interior of the dish, the knop and interior of the lid painted with a gilt chrysanthemum spray, the foot and lid with a floral border
Condition
In overall good condition, some rubbing to surface with resulting minor losses to gilt details, as viewed.

The exterior:
Around the rim: Qur’an, II (al-baqara), verse 255.
In the cartouches: Qur’an chapters CXII (al-Ikhlas), CXIII (al-falaq) and CXIV (al-nas).
Those on the lid are identical to those on the exterior of the bowl.
