Catalogue Note
The use of a deep orange-red and greyish green colours on the delicately painted decoration of the present dish suggests it was made at an early date. Two comparable dishes, each with similar scale medallions, are illustrated in Atasoy and Raby 1989, nos.687 and 695. Whereas both these examples and another similar dish in the Sadberk Hanim Museum (Istanbul 1989, p.287, no.171) each feature a similar design, they all have a wave motif border, which is different to that on the present example, decorated with a continuation of tulips and flowerheads on the rim.
