Description

Gouache heightened with gold on paper, depicting Awrangzeb wearing a jewelled red and gold turban, gold floral patka, holding a fly whisk and sword, a halo around his head, with a jewelled katar secured in his belt, laid down on an album page with leafy outer margins set with applied foliate cartouches in different colours, the reverse with a text box with 13 lines of elegant nasta'liq script in black ink with double intercolumnar rules, inventory number 'no.6029 MSS', ruled in colours and gold
Condition
In generally good overall condition, painting slightly extended at the bottom edge, possibly cut from lead or right hand edge of painting, gold and colours bright, a small repair to lower left hand edge, outer margins slightly creased and a few small stains, as viewed.

The present miniature originates from the same manuscript as the previous lot, which is executed in a similar style. Both paintings are laid down on the same Persian album pages with corresponding text panels on the reverse.
