Catalogue Note

Designs featuring rows of carnation palmettes and tulips were popular in late-sixteenth century and seventeenth-century Ottoman textile designs. These motifs were used on large panels probably intended as hangings, cushion covers and loom widths, such as the present example, which may have been intended for upholstery.
