Catalogue Note

A similar, single earring is now in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, inv. no 1981.5.16. Attributed to Morocco and dated to the seventeenth century, its shape, comprising a hoop ear wire, with a stone-set box element such as on the present pair, is related to Roman and Ancient models.

Furthermore, the technique by which they were constructed is compared to jewellery produced in Iran, India, and Europe during this period (For further information on such earrings and this style, please see the Metropolitan Museum of Art website).
