the fritware body decorated in blue and black with a white ground, with a central petalled medallion featuring water-weed motifs and fine rays on a white ground, the cavetto with a calligraphic band on a black ground
Condition
Intact, in overall good condition, very light craquelure to glaze, minor abrasion along external rim with associated overpainting on very minor chip, traces of iridescence on exterior consistent with age, as viewed.

khun shod ze gham-e to gar del o gar didast
dar sang-deli boti o dar bi-pa’i
meyl-e to be khak-e pa-ye to gardidast
‘I have been driven to great despair because of you
Because of the sorrow for you, whether my heart or face have shed blood
You are as hard as an idol and helplessly
Desiring you has made me as dust at your feet.’
negah-dar bada jahan afarin
be-har ja ke bashad khodavand-e in
‘May the creator of the World protect
The owner of this [bowl], wherever he may be’
