of cylindrical form, the flat, internal rim with a silver-inlaid inscription, the circular cover with a domed top and round finial, also inlaid with a calligraphic inscription to top and on the sides, both on an engraved foliate background, with two handles, the body with a row of repeating silver-inlaid flowerheads between two calligraphic bands, with three hinged foliate handles, the underside with a central geometric roundel and foliate border, also inlaid with silver
Condition
In overall good condition, areas of oxidisation and rubbing to surface, minor silver inlay details missing, as viewed.

Catalogue Note
A similar inkwell of cylindrical form with a domed cover and silver inlay decoration featuring flowerheads is now in the Victoria and Albert Museum, inv. no.1435-1902. Two further inkwells, now in the David Collection, inv. nos. 32/1970 and 6/1972 (illustrated in: Copenhagen 2001, pp.306-7, nos.481 and 483) also share stylistic features with the present example.
