Catalogue Note

The present candelabra are very similar in style to a set of four patinated and gilt- bronze candelabra attribued to Claude Galle (1759-1815) sold Sotheby`s London, Treasures Princely Taste, 4th July 2012, lot XXXVIII. The form of the classically dressed female figure with outstretched hands supporting the candle-branches is very similar to the present examples and also to those on a pair of candelabra known to have been supplied by Galle in 1807 for the Chambre de L`Impératrice at Fontainebleau, ( see Samoyault, Musée National du Chateau de Fontainebleau; Pendules et Bronzes d`ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire, Paris, 1989, p.157, cat. 135.
