Catalogue Note

Numerous vessels such as the present two examples are known. Under the Ming jade supplies from Khotan were abundant and large pieces of the material were often elaborately carved with openwork designs. See, for instance, a pale celadon jade cup of similar design and large size, published in Zhang Guangwen, Yuqi, Beijing, 2008, no. 137. Compare also another washer, illustrated in Zhang Guangwen, Mingdai yuqi, Beijing, 2007, pl. 75.
