le grand cadre en zitan accueillant une plaque en fonte de fer représentant Zhong Kui en relief, maintenu entre deux montants flanqués de part et d'autre de panonceaux chantournés finement sculptés de lotus reposant sur deux larges pieds formés d'épaisses barres rectangulaires aux flancs sculptés d'une fleurette et feuillage, les pieds reliés par une ceinture droite décorée d'un lotus épanoui au centre dans des rinceaux au-dessus d'un léger ressaut central (2)

Acquired in Munich in 1974.
Condition
The cast iron screen is in overall very good original condition. It is cast in one piece and is very heavy. The surface is patinated a deep reddish-brown tone and the corrosion of the surface is consistent with the material and age. It is slightly warped due to its large size and considerable weight. The frame is made of zitan and is in overall good condition. Due to the weight of the cast iron plaque the joints have come apart at the corners.
The stand is in overall very good condition. The carving is very crisp and with beautiful detailing, the wood a deep brownish-black tone. It is slightly paler on one side of the foot (visible in the catalogue illustration).
