Catalogue Note
"Autrefois, une femme possédait toujours deux statues. L'une, qu'elle emportait partout avec elle, était souvent la réplique miniature de l'autre" (Petridis, 2008, p. 119). Comme les représentations en buste dont la partie inférieure aboutit en pointe, ici les trous percés dans le tenon permettaient de la fixer à la ceinture ou au pagne. Les cavités au sommet de la tête et sur la nuque recevaient les médecines protectrices bishimba. S'inscrivant dans le cadre du culte cibola, elle illustre les canons Luluwa de la beauté - en particulier ici la très belle élaboration de la coiffure et des scarifications, dont les motifs se prolongent sur les épaules.
