Condition
This work is in good condition. The colours of the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate but the painting is much warmer in tone overall. The canvas is lined [according to our restorer there is no evident reason for this]. A close inspection reveals some minor shrinkage to the pink pigment of the figure's neck and upper left arm. There are some small zones of stable hairline craquelure in the figure's shirt and skirt with associated small spots of retouching which are visible under UV light. Examination under UV light also reveals three small spots of retouching in the background of the upper left quadrant, three small lines of retouching in the background pigment towards the lower left corner, three tiny spots of retouching to the figure's right forearm and one tiny spot towards the centre of the left edge.
