Condition

This work is in excellent condition. The canvas is not lined. A close inspection reveals a thin scratch parallel with the left upper edge, some stable hairline craquelure in the sky towards the centre of the composition and some very minor shrinkage in the blue pigment of the jockey's jacket and the dark green of the parasol in the lower left quadrant. Examination under UV light reveals a small spot of retouching along the lower right side of the trotting ring, in the green infield contained within the circle and at the extreme upper edge. The colours of the catalogue illustration are fairly accurate overall, although they are slightly brighter in the original.
